1942 – 2013

AUBURN — Motoko Horie, beloved wife of the late Takekazu Horie, passed away on March 27, after losing her battle to cancer.

She was born in Atsuki, Japan, on May 5, 1942. She lived in Japan until 1971, when she and her family moved to Lewiston, eventually finding permanent residence in Auburn in 1977. Her true passion was her family and she loved cooking and gardening. Many a summer day, you could find Motoko with her husband, enjoying fishing and the family on their boat. Her never-ending smiles, wonderful sense of humor and overwhelming generosity will be forever missed by all that knew her.

Motoko is survived by her son and daughter-in law, Takeyoshi and Kate Horie of Lunenburg, Mass.; daughter and son-in-law, Ryuko and Michael Doscher, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; andgrandchildren, Takashi and Kiyomi Doscher. She is also survived by three siblings, sister and brother-in-law, Eiko and Kou Yoshimi, brother and sister-in law, Shoju and Michiyo Akutagawa, and brother and sister-in law, Yoshinori and Kimiko Akutagawa of Japan.She also leaves behind her seven nieces and nephews, Ayumi Horie, Tomoko and Masafumi Yoshimi, Masako Kazumiti and Yoshimasa, Yoshitaka and Haruka Akutagawa.
