RUMFORD — Alexa Fryover of Jay, daughter of Melissa Forbes and Mark Fryover, a senior at Mountain Valley High School, has been selected to receive the 2013 Principal’s Award, Principal Matthew Gilbert has announced. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Alexa has distinguished herself in the classroom, on the playing fields, on the stage and through community service. As a student, Alexa has taken several AP and Honors courses and is the salutatorian of her graduating class. On the playing fields, Alexa has been recognized as an All-Star in field hockey and has also played lacrosse.

As a performer on the stage, she has been the lead in several MVHS productions and always has a solo vocal part at the school’s concerts. She has even sung the National Anthem at state championship sporting events. She has given back to her community through her service on the National Honor Society and Peer Helpers.

Alexa and the other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor on Saturday, April 6.

The luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler, who were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.
