What is it going to take for our elected representatives to understand the Constitution of the United States that they all swore an oath to uphold and defend as the supreme law of the land?

Perhaps there is a school teacher out there who can give our congressmen and women a refresher course in the meaning of the words in the Second Amendment that very clearly states that the people’s “… right to bear arms shall not be infringed.”

While President Barack Obama is pushing for weapons restrictions, I am concerned about a recent massive purchase of weapons and ammunition by the Department of Homeland Security, reported by many sources on the web, including the Associated Press.

DHS spokespeople have conflicting responses and several Republican members of Congress are demanding an explanation. The size of the purchase of ammunition is unprecedented and could mean a shortage of ammunition available to the general public, according to stories on the web.

Any attempt to leave the public defenseless is un-American. There is no other word for it.

It is interesting that Sen. Susan Collins had the courage to visit and face Mainers about gun control measures being debated. Where is Rep. Mike Michaud and Sen. Angus King? They all need to remember who they work for, and it is not Obama.
