BETHEL — “Good Mind: Good Mood” will be presented by To Your Health of Western Mountains Senior College from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at the Bethel Congregational Church, 32 Church St. This is the final program in a series aimed at “maximizing our health and happiness as we grow older.” Four local panelists will offer some concrete ways of living with the glass “half-full” and give some ideas to take home.

Lynn Arizzi, a life-long musician, will discuss how “Music Makes the Soul Soar.” She tells us music can be for beauty, joy, convictions or pathos. “Join me in a musical movement experience, which can lift your soul to new heights,” said Arizzi, who has been director of WMSC’s Senior College Players for the past six years.

Janet Willie, therapeutic massage therapist, will address, “Staying Positive: Maintaining Connections through Movement.” She said, “Keeping the body moving is crucial to healthy aging. In order be positive and maintain your connections, you need to feel good. By learning a few simple movement patterns, your everyday actions become more ease-filled.” She said this will reduce stiffness, loosen up joints and energize one’s life.

Cathi DiCocoa, professional chef and owner of DiCocoa’s Market Bakery, will give a brief look at how mood swings one experiences may be caused by a reaction to foods one chooses to eat. “A little science, a little myth-busting and some practical take-home information will help you keep those moody moments in check,” she said. Tasty samples will be offered in this session of edible education.

Ellen Crocker, retired psycho-therapist, will captivate one’s imagination with her talk on, “Homework for Old Age: What’s the Assignment Now.” She said, “Much of our striving is behind us: earning a living, raising a family, paying the rent. So what now? How do we resurrect old dreams and dream new ones?” This topic will be opened up for discussion with the audience.
