LEWISTON — Applications from patriotic singers from all over the state have been read by a panel of judges and 22 men, women and children have been invited to this year’s Maine Games national anthem audition scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13 at the Kora Shrine Temple, 11 Sabattus Street.

For the seventh year, the Maine Games has offered this competition to find the right mix of vocal talent and patriotism to represent their organization around the state, helping to set the perfect tone to many different events from now through the end of this year.

The winner of this year’s audition will be given an opportunity to perform at the Shriners Circus during April school vacation week, at a Portland Seadogs home game, at select Maine Games events, and in July at the 24th annual Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic in Biddeford. In addition, this year’s vocalist will be given a recording session courtesy of Blue Wave Creative and the Portland Radio Group, and will receive a CD recording of their rendition.

Interested singers submitted an online application to the Maine Games and in addition to their contact information, only one question was asked, “What does the Star Spangled Banner mean to you?” Based on the responses of the applicants, 22 were selected to audition live.

This event is open to the public, and doors open at 1 p.m. There is an admission fee of $3 per person, and event organizers ask that young children (under 8) be left home to better assure each singer the best opportunity to focus on their performance.

As an official Maine Games event, the top three finishers will be awarded Maine Games gold, silver and bronze medals.

Those selected to audition this year include the following area residents: Jerry Carrier, Auburn; Susan Cayer, Lewiston; Kirstin Hahn, Wales; Elizabeth Hewins, Livermore Falls; Emily Ouellette, Fryeburg; Sophie Patenaude, Poland; Shannon Remulla, Brunswick; Darby Sabin, Wilton; Rachel Scala, Windham; Katie Smith, East Wilton; and MacKenzie Thomas, Minot.
