TURNER — Voters will be presented with two budget recommendations at Saturday’s annual town meeting. It begins at 9 a.m. in the Leavitt Area High School cafeteria.

Selectmen and the Budget Committee have each recommended different amounts for the 2013-14 budget: $2.32 million from selectmen and $2.27 million from the Budget Committee.

This year’s budget is $2.36 million.

Residents have expressed considerable interest in the town’s Peddlers Ordinance, Town Manager Scott LaFlamme said. As proposed, it requires those who want to sell garden produce or camp firewood from stands on their property to have a site-plan review before the Planning Board. Amendments to relax some of the restrictions will be considered at the town meeting.

Polls will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the Town Office to elect two selectmen, a school director and three Budget Committee members. Selectmen candidates are Ron Harris, Lawrence House, Dennis Richardson, Jeffrey Stewart and Angelo Terreri. Richard Gross is running for the RSU 52 school board.

No one filed nomination papers for the Budget Committee, but three people have said they will be write-in candidates:

* Turner native Mike Chavez, a state police detective, said he sees a need in the community and is stepping up to serve.

* Alex Cutter is a lifelong resident of Turner and operates his family-owned veterinary supply business. He said he believes it’s time for new blood and younger voices on the committee. Cutter said he wants what’s best for the town, as well as fiscal responsibility.

* Ed Doiron, a Turner resident for 15 years, is an electrical engineer who holds a master’s degree in business administration. He said he is a good problem-solver and his MBA gives him an understanding of finances. Doiron said he wants to see Turner live within its means.
