LEWISTON — Charles Plummer, Civil War historian widely-known for his living history presentations, will be the featured speaker at the April 12 Food for Thought program at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn Senior College.
Garbed in the uniform of Civil War Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, and taking on his persona, Plummer will share the highlights of the life and experiences of this famous and colorful Union general beginning with his birth on April 27, 1862, and culminating with the surrender of Gen. Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia on April 9, 1865, which brought the Civil War to an end. Gen. Grant played a major role in defeating Lee’s army and was present at Lee’s surrender at Appomattox, Va.
Plummer is a longtime Lewiston/Auburn Senior College instructor and has taught several Civil War courses.
Senior College, now in its 14th year, presents the monthly 11:30 luncheon program in the Function Room 170 at USM LAC. The cost is $7 with advance reservation or $8 at the door. Reservations must be made by noon on April 11 by calling 753-6510. Any late callers will be considered “at the door.”
