WILTON — A local man is accused of stealing a lawnmower, four-wheeler and other items from a residence where he was living and selling them.

Sgt. Chad Abbott arrested Richard Irish, 32, of Wilton on a charge of felony theft on Wednesday, she said. A conviction on the charge carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.

The riding lawnmower was traded for a down payment on a 2013 Ford Mustang convertible at a Waterville dealership, Wilton police Chief Heidi Wilcox said Friday. The dealership returned the lawnmower once it learned it was stolen, she said.

Other items stolen include a four-wheeler, which was also sold but recovered, she said. A leaf blower and a weed whacker also were taken and recovered.

Abbott is continuing his investigation into more missing items.

Irish was released on $1,500 unsecured bail. He is scheduled to appear May 15 at a Farmington court.
