Eastern A

Lewiston went as far as the regional final last year but have just two returning players. Kirsty Beacuchesne went 14-1 last year at No. 3 and will be the Blue Devils’ top singles player. Becca Michaud also returns and was 12-3 in doubles play last year but will play singles this spring. The rest of the squad is young and inexperienced. Kyleigh Letourneau is the most seasoned of the underclassmen after playing JV last year.

Lewiston was the only local squad to make the tourney last year. The defending state champs from Brunswick should be strong while Mt. Ararat and Hampden were also semifinal teams last spring.

Edward Little has some returning talent led by seniors Rachel Libby and Meaghan McDonough. The Red Eddies have some experienced players back in addition to some newcomers that should keep EL competitive.

Mt. Blue returns seven from last year. Seniors Mackenzie Conlogue, Makenzie Thompson, Cassidy Bigos and juniors Lauren Lundy, Savannah Swain, Alyssa White and Lucy Celon give the Cougars hopes for a tourney spot this year.

Western B

The Western Maine Conference teams filled most of the tourney brackets last spring. Only Mountain Valley and Oak Hill managed to earn a spot in the top 10.

Oak Hill was fifth and has a new coach and will have some talent to replace.

Mountain Valley was ninth and lost in the prelims. Taylor Dickson leads the Falcons this year as the No. 1 player. The rest of the Falcons are evenly matched and form a solid club.

Spruce Mountain returns much of its team from last year and is aiming for the tourney. Lindsey Allen, Emily Taylor and Kendra Peart are all back in singles play. The team of Sam Richards and Taylor Boynton return in doubles while Nicole Hamblin is also back as a doubles player.

Waynflete will be strong again and Hall-Dale could be among the better MVC schools. St. Dom’s has some experience back as well and should be strtong.

Dirigo reached the semifinals but lost some talent.  The Cougars have just three returning seniors, Addy Fuller, Ryanne Dailey and Michelle Morrison and junior Grace Hebert.

Both Monmouth and Winthrop reached the prelim round last year and could improve to challenge for a tourney spot.

Lisbon has five players back from last year in Sarah Craig, Nicole Jones, Bryanna Sult, Tabitha Porter and Kiaya McBride. Only Jones played singles last year. The team is still trying to field a full squad and determine where the other returnees will play.

Lewiston reached the semifinals despite a rebuilding season. The Blue Devils should fare well coming off last season.

The Blue Devils return all three singles players in Bryan Hall, Alex Beaudoin and Evan Gosselin. The doubles teams are mostly new but Ramci Adil returns after seeing some doubles action last year.

Edward Little also reached the tourney, losing in the quarterfinals. The Red Eddies  graduated eight players. Ben Davis, Navid Rohani, Patrick Buzza and Tynan Collins lead a young EL squad that boasts 22 players in the program.

Mt. Blue returns six from last year and the Cougars hope to challenge for a tourney spot. Ryan Flanagan, Nate Backus, Ike Doiron, Zak Kendall, Josh Marcellino and Jamison Schanck give the Cougars an experienced core that make for a solid team.

The defending regional champs from Bangor as well as semifinalists Hampden and Messalonskee should be strong as well.

Western B

The WMC powers from Falmouth, Cape Elizabeth and York will likely be the top teams to watch.

Mountain Valley earned a prelim spot last year but lost to Yarmouth. The Falcons lost their top singles player but return Andrew Boucher to the No. 2 spot. Yanik Hosfled, a German exchange student, steps into the top spot. With no seniors on the team, the Falcons are young but junior Travis Ford and sophomore Nathan Billings have played at the varsity level.

Spruce Mountain could improve with some returning talent back.

Western C

Dirigo lost in the regional final to Waynflete and graduated some of its top players. The Cougars have some returning talent back but will be grooming new players in key roles.

Hoping to challenge the Waynfletes and NYAs of the tourney field this year is St. Dom’s. The Saints have a solid core back from last spring’s MVC title team.

Monmouth, Winthrop and Lisbon reached the quarterfinals last year. All three hope to earn a tourney berth again.

Lisbon has a group of four-year veterans in Mitch Austin, Zachariah Cribbin, Levi Dussault and Roger Jama.
