FARMINGTON — The sixth annual Earth Day Every Day! electronics recycling will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 20 in the Aubuchon Hardware parking lot on Routes 2 and 4.

As a community service project, Old South First Congregational Church will collect old and broken electronics for Maine Department of Environmental Protection-approved recycling and disposal.

Old South has partnered with EPA-approved eWaste Recycling Solutions of Auburn to recycle of TVs, computers, monitors, printers, microwaves, DVD and VCR players, stereos, cellphones, gaming and other electronic devices. A list of other electronics that will be accepted is available at www.ewastemaine.com for review.

Jim Meader has made his store property available for the collection for five years.

According to Earth Day Network, America produces 50 million tons of electronic waste a year and only 25 percent or less is recycled safely. The rest is buried or incinerated, causing  toxins such as lead, mercury and cadmium to leach into the soil or enter the atmosphere.

The collection is free and open to anyone, however, donations will be accepted to support the church’s community service and outreach programs.

For information call the church office at 778-0424 or 491-5919.
