LEWISTON — Citing clinical expertise and quality of care, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Maine has designated the Orthopaedic Institute of Central Maine at Central Maine Medical Center as a Blue Distinction Center for knee and hip replacement surgery.

Blue Distinction Centers demonstrate an expertise and reliability in quality special care on a consistent basis, resulting in better overall outcomes for patients. This designation is based on rigorous, evidence-based selection criteria established in collaboration with expert physician and medical organization recommendations.

To be designated as a Blue Distinction Center for knee and hip replacement, OICM was evaluated on specific criteria and ultimately was awarded the distinction.
