NORWAY — A public interest forum on seeds for local and global sustainability presented by Mark Silber will take place at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 18, at Fare Share Commons, 443 Main St.
Silber is a farmer, teacher, anthropologist, photographer and former public official. His home and farm are in Sumner.
He is concerned especially about the recent shift in seed availability from open pollinated seeds we can harvest and plant ourselves to hybrid and genetically modified seeds needing to be replenished every growing season.
He will talk about how he selects and saves seeds. He’ll argue that gardening and raising our own crops are important in order to assure diversity of seed varieties. Doing so, he suggests, contributes to the sustainability of our food supply and the quality of rural living.
Refreshments will be available.
