N.G. Historical Society meeting

NEW GLOUCESTER — The monthly meeting of the New Gloucester Historical Society will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Road, Route 231, next to the Town Hall.

The speaker will be Roland Jordan, Maine Old Cemetery Association, who will talk about the association’s many projects highlighting the work done with Revolutionary War veterans, in honor of Patriots’ Day. The program is free and the public is invited.

Quilt, fiber arts show is April 20

MONMOUTH — Monmouth Museum and the United Church of Monmouth will host a Spring Quilt and Fiber Arts Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Monmouth Center Church and Packard Activity Center, 778 Main St. Admission is free.

Antique quilts from Monmouth Museum will be on display. Antique quilts, Underground Railroad quilts, new quilts, fiber arts, rugs, crewel/wool work, dolls and doll clothes, and all manner of handiwork will be in the Sanctuary.

Downstairs offerings are lunch, a raffle table, bake sale, vendors, books, fabric from charms to yardage, a quilt raffle and magazines will be on sale as well as tables for six local vendors.

There will be door prizes every half hour and ongoing demonstrations of sewing techniques. All proceeds benefit UCM and MM.

Teen parenting night is free

AUBURN — New or expecting teen parents and their families are invited to attend a free teen parenting night at the Auburn Public Library from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, April 22, in the Androscoggin Community Room.

The following agencies and professionals will be on hand to explain all of the local resources available to help teens become successful parents: Advocates for Children, Auburn Adult & Community Education, Boys & Girls Club, Community Credit Union, EL Connect, Androscoggin Head Start, Healthy Androscoggin, Maine Children’s Wellness Home, New Beginnings, Safe Voices, Tree Street Youth and YWCA of Central Maine.

Free yoga workshop

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free yoga workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. Restorative Yoga: Relax and Renew will take place from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Yoga instructor Tish Caldwell will introduce restorative yoga, a gentle form of yoga that uses props to encourage a deep state of relaxation. By supporting various parts of the body with bolsters, blocks, blankets and/or straps, you can fully release into the pose and relax every part of your body. Restorative yoga helps relieve the effects of chronic stress and move the spine in all directions to promote greater well-being.
