PORTLAND — PORTopera will hold auditions for the adult and children’s chorus of Giacomo Puccini’s La Boheme on Saturday, May 4, at the Williston-Immanuel United Church,156 High St. Attendees are asked to enter through the rear entrance.

Auditions for the adult chorus will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Those auditioning are asked to prepare a two-minute excerpt from an aria or art song in Italian.

Auditions for the children’s chorus will be held from noon to 2 p.m. PORTopera is seeking a dedicated and diverse group of fifth- to eighth-grade students to join the performance. Children are asked to prepare a song of their choice or come prepared to sing “Happy Birthday.”

La Boheme will be conducted by maestro Israel Gursky and directed by PORTopera’s artistic director Dona D. Vaughn. The chorus master for the adult chorus is Robert Russell and for the children’s chorus is Sarah Bailey.

Music rehearsals begin Monday, June 17. Staging rehearsals begin Tuesday, July 9.

This summer, La Bohème is scheduled for three performances: Wednesday, July 24; Friday, July 26; and Sunday, July 28 (matinee) at Merrill Auditorium.
