1931 – 2013

LEWISTON — Lynn W. Markee, 81, passed away at home, on April 11, after a long battle with heart disease.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1931, one of 13 children, to William and Marjorie Markee of Winslow.

After graduating, Lynn joined the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Gorham State Teacher’s College and received a Master’s degree in education from the University of Maine. He taught in the Lewiston/Auburn school system for many years. Lynn also served the Auburn community as a building inspector and as a relocation director for urban renewal.

In 1957, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty” Hatch, of Plymouth, N.H. Together, Lynn and Betty made their home in Auburn, where they raised their three children.

Lynn was a devoted husband, dad and grandfather. He always looked forward to Markee family gatherings and spending time with a very special group of friends, “The Gang,” with whom he and Betty made many wonderful memories. He also enjoyed boating, golfing, snowmobiling, woodworking, time with his coffee groups, playing cards with family and friends and especially spending time with his only grandchild, Dylan.
