RANGELEY — The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday heard discussion on bids for three projects and renewed several liquor licenses.

Before the Pledge of Allegiance, there was a moment of silence for victims of the bombings at the Boston Marathon on Monday.

In the absence of Town Manager Tim Kane, Tiki White began discussion of the transfer station’s oversize bulky waste facility by introducing Steve Sargent, who had inspected the foundation pad on-site and found the dimensions wrong for the container’s size. A walk-through is planned for April 25 so contractors can inspect the site and submit plans for bid.

Three quotes for a new steamer for the Highway Department did not answer the need of the town policy to put out to bid any purchase over $10,000. “As anxious as we are to get that piece of equipment,” board Chairman Gary Shaffer said, “we need to follow the formal process.” The call for bids will be publicly posted.

On Feb. 19, Tim Kane received a warning from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection that the sewage pumping station needed backup generators. The town has specifications from Wright Pierce Environmental Engineering of Topsham for a top-of-the-line installation, but the board looks to have specifications available by the next meeting for a less expensive plan to be put out to bid.

An April 15 DEP deadline to apply for an extension was apparently not met by the town manager, and Town Clerk Ethna Thompson, speaking as a member of the Sewage Committee, expressed frustration that the board and town manager had not acted with more urgency on the matter.

Renewal of liquor licenses were granted to the The Gingerbread House, Loon Lodge, Mingo Springs Golf Course and Tall Tales Tavern.

Shaffer explained that the board has discussed the choice of an honoree for the dedication of the new town report, but has decided to keep the identity a secret until the formal announcement.
