AUBURN — Armand E. Arel, 89, of New Auburn, passed away Wednesday, April 17, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

He was born in Sanford, Feb. 21, 1924, son of the late Ernest and Helena Guertin Arel. Armand served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.

He was married June 1, 1946 to Lucille Cote. He had been employed as a foreman at Lombard Shoe, retiring from Norway Shoe Co.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish at St. Louis Church, American Legion Post 153 of New Auburn, New Auburn Social Club and Prospect Hill Golf course.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille, of New Auburn; a daughter, Joan Giguere and husband, Robert, of Lisbon Falls; a grandson, Rodney Giguere and wife, Rhonda, of Scarborough; three great-granddaughters, Jaimie, Jenna and Jessica Giguere; two sisters, Pauline Janelle of Tolland, Conn., and Anita Olehowski and husband, Paul, of Lewiston.
