ESSEX, Conn. — Andrea Rebecca “Becki” Derry, 62, of Poland, died April 18, at Essex Meadows Health Center.
She was born in Portland, June 11, 1950, the daughter of the late Dr. G. Hermann and Beryl B. Derry of Cape Elizabeth. She attended Cape Elizabeth schools and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1968. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire and her master’s degree in speech pathology at the University of New York in Geneseo, N.Y.
She was a certified clinical speech pathologist throughout her career and belonged to the American Speech and Hearing Association. Becki was an accomplished craftswoman, who mastered numerous media. These included sewing, weaving, all forms of needle work, oil painting, ceramics, basket weaving and stained glass to name a few. She was also a serious animal lover, who especially favored horses, dogs and cats of which she had several.
Becki faced the many difficult challenges in her life with tenacity and grace. She was employed for many years at the former Pineland Hospital, followed by Mark Hammond Associates and finally by Kindred Rehabilitation Services.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Suzanne M. Derry and Ernest Lorda of Old Lyme, Conn.; her dear friend, Rita Lane of Westbrook; and several longstanding close friends.
She was predeceased by her parents.
