Rep. Nate Libby’s column in the April 14 Sun Journal about Gov. LePages’s budget proposal hit the nail right on the head.

LePage’s misguided proposal would hurt the poor, the middle class and the elderly the most. His attempt to balance the budget would be done by eliminating the long time state program of traditional revenue sharing to the municipalities, shifting the burden to local property taxpayers on the back of municipal governments and their citizens.

I urge fellow Republicans, and the mayors of both Lewiston and Auburn, to urge the governor to come to his senses.

Lewiston’s mayor has previously publicly addressed the huge problem the lack of revenue sharing would cause, but I haven’t seen Mayor Labonte do so.

The governor, my high school classmate, by the way, hopefully will come to his senses for all of our sakes. Or Elliot Cutler, according to the polls, may end LePage’s tenure four years earlier than the governor may wish.
