AUBURN — Horace L. Richards, 77, a resident of Lowell Street, Lewiston, died Tuesday, April 16, at the Hospice House, following a short illness, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Jay, Nov. 24, 1935, the son of Archie and Lillian E. (Powers) Richards. He was educated in Canton schools and was employed in various positions until enlisting in the U.S. Army, serving two years in Germany.

Horace was an avid New England sports fan. At one time he owned and trained two trotters and was a member of the Trotters Association. He was an avid fisherman who loved fishing.

Survivors include one son, Stephen Richards and wife, Barbara, of Jay; one daughter, Susan Richards and companion, Mike Castaneda, of Livermore Falls; two brothers, Gerald Richards of Livermore Falls and Gary Richards of Jay; two sisters, Diane Bonito of Lewiston and Faye James and husband, David, of Farmington, N.H.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Horace was predeceased by three sisters, Beatrice, Arlene and Beverly; and two brothers, Reggie and Raymond.

The family would like to thank both CMMC and the Hospice House for the wonderful care given to Horace during his illness.
