BRUNSWICK — Ryan Godin hurled seven innings of one-hit baseball Monday as Oxford Hills hustled to a 8-0 victory over Brunswick in KVAC baseball action.

Matt Beauchesne led the Vikings’ (2-1) offensive effort with three hits, while Ty Martin pounded out two hits and drove in a run.

Starting pitcher Chris Lowell suffered the loss for Brunswick (1-2) after giving up six runs in five innings.

Winthrop 12, Mountain Valley 2

WINTHROP — Jared Hanson gave up seven hits in six innings of work and drew ample run support as Winthrop kicked off the 2013 baseball season with a 12-2 romp over Mountain Valley on Monday.

Matt Sekarak led the Ramblers (1-0) with a pair of hits and three RBIs. Mario Mucci and Ben Allen chipped in with three hits and two RBIs apiece, while Tyler Stockford drove in a pair of runs.

Tom Marshall belted out two hits for the Falcons (0-1) to lead their offensive effort. Adam Volkernick suffered the loss after working the first three frames.

St. Dom’s 5, Madison 1

AUBURN — Mitch Lorenz gave up five hits, struck out four and drew ample run support as St. Dom’s rolled to a 5-1 win over Madison in another KVAC baseball matchup Monday.

Michael Bryant was key for the Saints (1-0), belting a bases-clearing double to plate three runs in the third inning.

Lisbon 10, Mt. Abram 5

LISBON — Tucker Brannon effectively shut his opponent down during the first three frames, allowing Lisbon to build a big lead early and race away to post a 10-5 win over Mt. Abram Monday.

Joe Philbrick and Darren Ward each belted out two hits with two RBIs for the Greyhounds (1-2), while Kyle Bourget contributed with two hits and one RBI.

The Roadrunners (0-1) received two hits each from Jay Chenard, Ethan Boyd and Johnny Hart.

Lewiston 6, Erskine 4

SOUTH CHINA — Erskine Academy rallied for four runs in the final two frames Monday, but Lewiston held on for a hard-fought 6-4 victory in a baseball game Monday.

Alec Small saved the win for Lewiston starter Kyle Ullrich who went the first three innings. Tom Hurd’s three hits and RBIs led the Blue Devils. Lewiston improved to 3-0 on the season, while Erskine fell to 0-3.

York 3, Poland 2

YORK — Despite outhitting York, the Poland Knights still fell to the Wildcats, 3-2, in a baseball game Monday.

Poland pitcher Shawn Murphy had an impressive outing against York’s lineup, holding the Wildcats to one hit. Murphy allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out three during his three innings of work. The Knights jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. A single by Kaleb Bridgham plated Pat Jipson to start the inning off.

York answered Knights’ top inning with one run of its own in the first. York scored on a walk by Alex Mercurio. York never trailed after scoring two runs in the fourth on an error and a sacrifice fly by Adam Legg.

After pushing across one run in the top of the fifth, Knights faced just a 3-2 deficit. An RBI single by Bridgham fueled Knights’ comeback. But Adam Bailey got Murphy to ground out to end the inning.

Hampden 9, Mt. Blue 3

HAMPDEN — Chelsea Covey hammered out three singles and Abby Martin smacked a two-run homer as Hampden Academy glided past Mt. Blue with a 9-3 victory in a softball game Monday.

Hampden built a 5-2 victory by the third innibng and tacked on four more runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Hampden had 12 hits and commited just one error.

For Mt. Blue (2-1), Kiana Thompson had a pair of hits.

Oxford Hills 15, Brunswick 2

BRUNSWICK — Oxford Hills powered past home team Brunswick with 15-2 victory in a game called after five innings Monday. Crystal West was the winning pitcher for the visitors, while Maggie Wilkes took a difficult loss.

Madison 23, St. Dom’s 2

AUBURN — Madison improved to 2-0 with a 23-2 victory against St. Dom’s in a softball game Monday. Emily McKenney pitched a fine game for the Madison. St. Dom’s fell to 0-1. Eight players had multiple hits, seven of them from Madison.

Telstar 5, Wiscasset 2

WISCASSET — Jessica Dirago hurled seven innings of two-hit softball and helped her own cause at the plate to lead Telstar to a 5-2 win over Wiscasset on Monday afternoon. Dirago struck out 12 and gave up just two hits, along with belting two doubles and three RBIs in a two-sided effort. The Rebels (1-0) had five players with one hit each in a well-balanced effort.

Wiscasset (0-1) was led by Kathy Gordon with a pair of hits. Mary Corson suffered the loss in a full-game performance.

Mt. Ararat 4, Edward Little 2

AUBURN — Mt. Ararat took advantage of several errors Monday, rolling to a 4-2 victory over Edward Little in KVAC softball action.

The Eagles (1-2) trailed 1-0 after two frames before taking control with a four-run third inning effort. Kim Leslie gave up five hits in seven innings to notch the win.

The Red Eddies (1-2) were led by Danielle Rock with an RBI double in the first frame. Emily Schario went the distance for Edward Little and was tagged with the loss.

Men’s lacrosse

Maine Maritime 10, UMF 5

FARMINGTON — Maine Maritime Academy picked up six second-half goals from five different players on its way to a 10-5 win over the University of Maine at Farmington, in a North Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse matchup Monday at Prescott Field.

MMA’s Nick Betti scored just over two minutes into the third quarter, with A.J. Larrabee of Farmington extending the Mariner lead to 6-3 just over a minute-and-a-half later. Evan Carrier’s of Lewiston scored a goal with 5:46 left in the third quarter, giving the Mariners a 7-3 lead, but UMF’s Brandon Melville of Farmington scored before the frame ended to cut the margin to 7-4 heading into the fourth quarter. UMF’s Ben Altmaier of Wilton made 16 saves.

Ayla Allen collects fourth NAC rookie honor this season

FARMINGTON — University of Maine at Farmington freshman Ayla Allen of Rumford earned her fourth North Atlantic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week honor, when she was named the recipient of the award for the week ending April 21.

Allen recorded eight goals and five assists last week to lead the Beavers to a pair of wins. She scored five goals and picked up an assist in UMaine-Farmington’s 10-9 victory over New England

College, and had three goals and four assists in an 11-7 triumph over Green Mountain College. Allen also finished with 11 groundballs and five draw controls over the two games.
