The Auburn Athletic Association Park, the only ball ground in Auburn, changed hands Wednesday when the Edward Little High School athletic association assumed control, having assured a lease of the park for five years. When the grounds are not in use by school teams, they can be used as a public playground. It is proposed to commence work at once, repairing the fence and grandstand, placing the latter in a safe condition. The Edward Little boys say they have sufficient money in the treasury to support the teams, but they will have to solicit money from the people to aid in defraying the cost of repairs and general upkeep of the park.

(PHOTO CAPTION) LET THE WINDS BLOW … A State Highway Commission crew was busy at work today removing the wind-break from the pedestrian walk along North Bridge, another solid sign that more favorable weather is in the offing. Hudson Bus Lines is asking the Twin Cities to pay for a portion of the firm’s $144,846 operating deficit, reversing an earlier practice of absorbing the shortfall on its own. Susan Dollar, Transit Coordinator for the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments, said Friday talks are continuing between the Lewiston-Auburn Transit Committee and Hudson over how much of the deficit the cities will be asked to pay. The $144,846 is only 40 percent of the firm’s entire deficit. The company’s projected loss for fiscal year 1989 is $362,116. But federal transit subsidies contribute $181,058, and the state picks up $36,212, Dollar said.
