BETHEL — “Bridging the Generations – or What do your grandparents do all day?” will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, in the Telstar High School cafeteria. This collaborative event is sponsored by the Western Mountains Senior College as a public celebration of WMSC’s 10th anniversary year. Admission is free.

Major players in the preparations are members of the Telstar Middle School ArtReach class, under the direction of teacher Melissa Prescott. Their website at artreach13.wix.com/2013 is an ongoing story of how the project is proceeding. The students explain that “Each year, students in the advanced art class at Telstar Middle School select and design an arts-integrated service-learning project. This year, students chose to help and work with seniors in our area.”

Nancy Davis, Senior College president, and Bonnie Pooley, chair of the planning committee, are excited about the interactions and learning that are occurring and the resulting projects that will be featured at the event.

They explain that seniors from both WMSC and the Senior Citizens group of Bethel have been meeting with middle school classes on collaborative projects in art, creative writing and cooking for the May 2 event.

Other displays or live presentations will feature drama, music, technology, gardening and good food. One group is working on volunteer projects for the future, with youngsters helping seniors in the community.

The public is encouraged to attend this event and enjoy displays from a variety of local organizations. At 3:30 there will be short presentations and entertainment. For more information, visit wmscollege.blogspot.com or contact Nancy Davis at nancydavis@megalink.net or 381-1110.
