WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Mike Michaud has announced that Brianna Hall, a student at Rangeley Lakes Regional School, was chosen as the winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition for Maine’s Second Congressional District.

The Congressional Art Competition offers a chance for one high school student from participating congressional districts from around the country to have their art displayed in the U.S. Capitol. The Maine winners, who are chosen by jurors selected by the Maine Arts Commission, are flown to Washington courtesy of competition sponsors to participate in an opening ceremony in June. Prior to the opening ceremony, Maine’s winners and runners-up will be invited to the Blaine House for a reception in their honor.

“It’s always impressive to see how many Maine students possess such a high level of artistic talent,” said Michaud. “I appreciate and admire all of the students who submitted entries this year. I’d like to thank the Maine Arts Commission for their continued dedication to this annual event and the critical role they play in the selection of the winners. Brianna’s wonderful collage will bring some much-needed Maine-made artwork to our nation’s capital.”

The runners-up from the Second Congressional District are Sarah McQuoid, who submitted a photograph, and Taylor Leighton, who submitted a digital image. Both students are from Bangor High School.

The competition began in 1982 with the goal of providing more encouragement and recognition to the artistic abilities of the nation’s young people. Since the competition’s establishment, more than 700,000 students have participated.
