EAST DIXFIELD — Countryfolk Music Theatre on U.S. Route 2 is getting ready to open its 14th season of country music and youth music scholarships on Sunday, May 26.

Larry Bisbee, operator of the popular venue, said, “We’re trying to get the word out early to our regular and new musicians because of the destructive fire of last year that kept us from having a full season.”

The venue will retain its regular Sunday schedule starting Memorial Day weekend with music from  noon to 6 p.m. and each Sunday throughout the summer. The annual Youth Music Scholarship weekend will take place Saturday and Sunday, July 27-28, while the country star look-a-like contest will take place Labor Day weekend. In addition, Countryfolk will host pot-luck meals every Sunday throughout the summer.

Countryfolk Music Theatre is open to all musicians, beginners or seasoned veterans, who primarily play country and bluegrass music. All instruments are welcome.

More than 250 individual musicians have donated their time during the past 14 years and helped build a place for new and “mentor” musicians to showcase their talents and to award youth music scholarships. More that 31 youths have received financial assistance over the past several years.

Countryfolk is operated by volunteers and is free and family friendly. For more information, contact Bisbee at 207-645-4411.
