1935 – 2013
FARMINGDALE — Gertrude Elliott, 77, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, from a long-term illness. She was surrounded by her sons as her strong spirit left a frail body to meet her beloved Lord.
She was born Sept. 14, 1935, in Van Buren to parents Charles and Angelina Sirois.
Gertrude was proud to be raised in a family with strong Catholic beliefs. She carried herself with class and took pride in dressing neatly. She maintained a lifelong commitment to her relationship with Jesus and was a devoted communicant of St. Joseph Church in Gardiner.
She met and fell in love with Robert Elliott from New York. They married on Oct. 23, 1954, and had four sons. She was happy to marry a man who shared her beliefs and would become a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Trudy would have a long career as a mental health worker at the Augusta Mental Health Institute. Her work ethic was respected, and she was well liked by clients and staff.
She celebrated the births of her three grandchildren. Her striking blue eyes would smile brightly when she played with the babies. She was known for giving genuine hugs.
Retirement allowed more fun afternoons spent playing cards and shopping. Our “Queen of Hearts” also enjoyed bingo, lotto and an occasional trip to the casino. Quite frugal and wise, she knew when to fold and walk away.
She is survived by three sons, Paul Elliott and wife, Carol, of Auburn, John Elliott of Vassalboro, Robert Elliott II and wife, Stacie, of Gardiner; three grandchildren, Joshua Elliott and wife, Nichol, of Mechanic Falls, Megan Parlin and husband, Christopher, of Sidney, and Robert Elliott III of Gardiner; her sisters, Erma Therberge of Auburn, Yvette Sirois of Lewiston, and Theresa Pelletier of Rockville, Conn.; brother-in-law, James Elliott of Farmingdale; five great-grandchildren, Joshua Elliott II, Reid and Christopher Parlin, Nicholas and Ashley Starbird; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Elliott Sr.; son, Patrick; brothers Phil Sirois, Sylvio Sirois and Ray Sirois; and sisters, Vie Trottier, Jean Gagnon, Irene Sirois, Sylvia Sirois and Delores Copeland.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Sandy Kaiser and all the caring and dedicated staff at Maine General Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Facility at Gray Birch.
