DEAR SUN SPOTS: Last fall, we had a visit one Sunday morning from an officer from the Lewiston Police Department. He informed me that if he caught my son biking in the skate park again, he would be taken away in handcuffs.

As of last year, it was illegal for bike riders to be in the skate park. When I awoke to read the paper on April 1, I saw a front page picture of a young man riding a bike in the park. My question is, has it become legal for bikers to use the park? It was a trespassing charge — not sure if that means criminal or not.

I would love to see the Sun Journal lead a campaign to open the park to bikers. There are lots of variables, such as allowing it on certain days or times of days. Portland, Bath and Augusta all have open skateboard parks for bikers and skateboarders. — No Name via email

ANSWER: It is indeed illegal to ride bikes in the skate park, according to Lewiston police Lt. Michael McGonagle. The young man in the April 1 photograph was just lucky enough not to get caught.

If he had been caught, as with your son, he would have gotten a warning for criminal trespass. A second offense could result in charges being filed.

As for why bikes aren’t allowed, McGonagle said that when bike pedals, handlebars and other protuberances hit the cement, they damage it.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Love the column! Any Moneydance (similar to Quicken) users out there ? I’m having trouble using some of the help sections and can’t print checks. I did one, but no luck since.

I’d prefer an email answer before using the phone. Thanks for whatever help I get. — Janet, krapo1@MyFairPoint.net

ANSWER: Sun Spopts googled “How to print checks in Moneydance” and got plenty of hits, but she doesn’t know which links would be more useful to you. More details, such as Mac or PC, or what kind of printer might help whittle them down.

There are often communities of users and software writers online who help each other over the bumps of computer use.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Papa John’s is launching a statewide food drive (Bangor, Biddeford, Brunswick, Lewiston, Portland, Waterville) for May 6 and 7 in partnership with Good Shepherd Food-Bank, which partners with 600 agencies across the state.

When people donate three or more items on these days, they will get a free pizza. They can bring in the donation and get the pizza on the spot or they can have delivery and they driver will pick up the donation and give them a voucher for a future use.

We are notifying local media outlets hoping that the word can be spread so we can collect as much food as possible for such a great cause. People can help those in their communities and get a free pizza for themselves!

Good Shepherd is currently in need of canned vegetables and fruits, tuna and canned meats, canned soup, pasta and sauces, dry and canned beans, peanut butter, fruit juice and beverages, paper products and monetary donations.

We will also be having a team of Papa John’s employees donating their time to Good Shepherd after the event to volunteer with the food banks needs. — Cheryl Killian, humanitarian coordinator, ckillian_papajohns@aol.com
