AUBURN — East Auburn opened the season with a 9-6 victory over Gifford’s in an Auburn Suburban Little League Majors Division tilt on Saturday.  East Auburn was led by the solid pitching of Ben Cassidy who struck out 14 batters in 5 innings.  The first 12 outs came on Cassidy strike outs. East Auburn was led offensively by brothers Jaelen and Jahvon Coney and Giles Paradie. Jaelen Coney went 3-for-3 while Jahvon went 2-for-4. Paradie was 2-for-2 with two walks and scored all four times he reached base.  Nick Hathaway went 3-for-4 for Giffords.  Austin Brown, Jared Schofield and Luke Josephson all had hits for Giffords as well.
All twelve players had at least one hit while more than half had three hits in M&P Auto’s 19-2 win over Hammond Lumber. Kamden Masselli sparked the offense with a leadoff triple, the first of 30 M&P hits.  M&P Auto’s defense sparkled with several caught fly balls, two double plays and many Hammond players thrown out.
