BUCKFIELD — Hannah Gallant drove in seven runs and Alannah Knox five as Buckfield opened its season with a doubleheader sweep of Vinalhaven in EWC softball action Saturday.

The Bucks rallied for four runs in the seventh to win game one, 10-9. Amber Arseneault scored the winning run on a fielder’s choice after stealing second and third base. Knox and Gallant both doubled, while Elizabeth Damon belted a pair of doubles for the Bucks. Samantha Zak added three hits. Ashley Hamilton, Tracie Webster, Maddie Hallowell and Taylor Littlefield all doubled for the Vikings.

Buckfield took the momentum from their game one win and carried it over to game two with a nine-run first inning and went on to a 22-8 win. Gallant, Knox and Damon all collected three hits, while Elizabeth Strout went 3-for-3 with a walk and four runs scored. Arseneault drove in three runs.

Dirigo 15, St. Dom’s 5

AUBURN — Lauren Henderson belted three hits and three other players added two more each to lead Dirigo to a 15-5 win over St. Dom’s in softball action Saturday. Emma Lueders, Ambyr Wilson and Megan Bradbury all had multiple hits for the Cougars (4-0).

Bethany Fox had four hits for the Saints (0-3), while Jacqueline Schmitz rapped a pair of doubles in the loss.

Spruce Mtn. 19, Lisbon 15

LISBON — Spruce Mountain plated 12 runs in the third inning and Lisbon countered with an eight-run fifth as the MVC rivals slugged it out Friday. The Phoenix ultimately held off the Greyhounds in a 19-15 win.

Ari Kahler of Lisbon (1-2) smacked the lone extra-base hit of the contest with a double.

Katelin Castonguay of Spruce Mountain (2-2) earned the win in the circle.

Bucks take two from Vikings

BUCKFIELD — Garrett Hamann pitched five innings of one-hit baseball while striking out seven to lead Buckfield to a 15-0 win over Vinalhaven in Game 2 of a Saturday EWC twinbill.

Tyler Vallee scored four of the Bucks’ 10 runs, while Owen Bennett and Jonah Williams provided multiple hits.

In the first game, Williams was equally strong on the hill, allowing three hits and striking out nine in a 10-0 Buckfield victory.

Vallee ripped a double and scored another three runs, while Williams and Bennett again registered multiple base hits.

Girls’ lacrosse

Mt. Ararat 13, Edward Little 6

AUBURN — Three different Mt. Ararat players scored three goals each and Baily Sullivan stopped nine Edward Little shots as the Eagles topped the Red Eddies 13-6 Saturday.

Sydni Clark, Rebecca Schuman and Carly Raymond each lit the lamp three times for Mt. Ararat (2-1).

Hannah Johnston led EL (2-2) with three goals and an assist, while Taylor Landry added two more goals and Kate Sawyer notched one.
