1918 – 2013

AUBURN — Viola M. McGilvery, 94, of Auburn, passed away on Friday, April 26, at Clover Manor, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Lewiston on Sept. 14, 1918, the daughter of the late Charles and Katherine Graham McFadden. Viola attended local schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in the Class of 1936. She continued her education at the Auburn Maine School of Commerce.

On June 20, 1942, she married the love of her life , Gerald A. McGilvery, at the High Street Methodist Church in Auburn. Together they worked and raised their young family in the Auburn-Lewiston area until Gerald’s death in 1995. Viola was a secretary at Casco Bank and Trust before retiring in 1980. Following her retirement, she became a devoted volunteer, along with her husband, at Central Maine Medical Center and was among the first patient representatives for CMMC.  She was an active and devoted member of The United Methodist Church of Auburn, the Robin Dow Senior Citizens, the Naomi circle, the United Methodist Women and the Auburn Senior Citizens. Her church was a big part of her life and she enjoyed traveling, spending time at Taylor Pond, listening to the radio, reading books, doing crossword puzzles, watching game shows and observing the birds at her feeders. Most of all she loved her time spent with friends and the very precious moments with her grandsons.

Viola is survived by her two daughters, Sharon McGilvery of Auburn, Barbara Jamrog and husband, Steven, of Minot; two grandsons, Jason Jamrog and wife, Andrea,  of Suffield, Conn., Eric Jamrog and wife, Corrie, of East Windsor, Conn.; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard McFadden of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; two brothers, C. William and Warren McFadden; and a very close and special friend, Frances Wentworth.
