LEWISTON — Murray S. Rubinstein, 85, of Lewiston, passed away on Saturday, April 27, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was born in New York City on Feb. 11, 1928. He graduated from Hunter College and went on to continue his education and obtain his master’s in biology from Columbia University.

On Feb. 5, 1955, Murray married the love and light of his life, Estelle, in New York.

Murray served in the U.S. Army, followed by a short career in teaching and liquor sales. Murray also opened a glove factory in Livermore Falls with longtime friend Bob Allen. He and Bob also opened A and R Safety Equipment before going into the shoe business.

Murray traveled all over Europe, acquiring designs for shoes to bring back to the states. He also worked in Cornish, promoting sales in women’s handbags and accessories. One of his largest accounts was L.L. Bean. He was known in the industry as one of the top salesmen in the business.

Murray enjoyed crossword puzzles, golf and snow skiing and, most of all, spending quality time with his children and grandchildren.

Murray is survived by his wife of 58 years, Estelle; his brother, Sidney (Helene); his two children, Ira (Paula) and Karen (Jon); four grandchildren, Samuel, Lea, Jarrod and Jonathan; and his three great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Catherine and Kylie. Murray was a husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, g-dfather and friend and was dearly loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Their dedication to their profession and to our family has been heartfelt.
