LEOMINSTER, Mass. — Mavis R. (White) Appleton, 89, of Leominster, died Sunday, April 28, in HealthAlliance-Leominster Hospital.
Mavis was born March 18, 1924, in Livermore Falls, daughter of Amos and Elsie (Richmond) White, and lived in Leominster for nearly 60 years. She graduated from Livermore Falls High School and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Mavis had been a telephone operator for over 20 years, before retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Leominster.
She is survived by sons, William B. Appleton III and his wife, Sherry, of Amherst, John W. Appleton and his wife, Diane, of Charlton, and Greg H. Appleton and his wife, Jane, of Templeton; daughter, Susan A. Bartlett and her husband, Thomas, of Leominster; brothers, Amos White of Gloucester, Owen White of Pennsylvania, and Shelton White of Florida; sister, Anita Gatehouse of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, William B. Appleton Jr., in 2002 and by her sister, Kathleen Pulkkenin.
