I want to publicly thank the Lewiston Housing Authority for going above and beyond during Monday’s fire and Tuesday’s aftermath.
As the fire was tearing through my old neighborhood, my husband and I watched the scene online from our Topsham home with growing worry because the fire was so close to my mother’s apartment building. I spent several hours and made many phone calls trying to figure out where my mom was and whether she was OK.
I talked with several emergency-type services and they all gave me the same answer — “We can’t help you.” When I finally called the Housing Authority, they were incredibly helpful and supportive, understanding my concerns for my mother.
And again on Tuesday, through all of the chaos at the scene of the fire, Housing Authority staff helped me get my mom back into her apartment.
I can’t say thank enough all the good people at the Housing Authority who went out of their way to help during that difficult time. Their efforts are greatly appreciated.
Nancy Audet, Topsham
