LEWISTON — About 20 families displaced by Friday night’s fire on Bartlett and Pierce streets spent the night at Lewiston High School.

Scott Parker, Red Cross shelter manager, said the school will be available Saturday night also. 

Sunday night? “That’s what we’re going to figure out now,” he said.

In the meantime, residents displaced by the fire were coming and going. The Red Cross asked people to fill out forms so they could get assistance. Interpreters from Trinity Jubilee Center provided translation services. 

There was food available — donated by Dunkin Donuts, Tim Horton’s and Blue Castle Bakery in Auburn, according to Donald Walsh, a volunteer with the Salvation Army. He said Subway and Papa John’s would provide food for lunch.

Once people left the high school, they were directed to the YWCA on East Avenue to get donated clothes and vouchers for housing. Walsh said they would be able to get vouchers for other necessities also.

Parker said the YWCA had a lot of clothing that was donated for the victims of Monday’s fire. “Lewiston people really came through,” he said. That meant there was  extra clothing available for Friday’s fire victims.

Walsh said the Salvation Army’s thrift store would be available to fire victims who needed household items such as cookware and eating utensils.
