DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the past, you have been very helpful answering our questions, so here we are again requesting information. We are wondering if there is anyone in Franklin or Androscoggin counties doing business power washing vinyl siding.

Our home is 10 years old, and we are getting a lot of smoke and dirt from neighbors’ burning wood. Our siding is light gray. so it really shows the soot. Thank you once again for your help. — Faithful Reader, Farmington

ANSWER: Sun Spots actually made note of this information when it was first printed. One of these days that box of stuff on her back porch will find its way there. Meanwhile, for others who may not know, SHAREcenter in Auburn is a nonprofit organization that supports teachers and other nonprofit groups by providing them with recycled materials and other items that people and businesses would otherwise throw away.

Some examples of items they accept are yarn, CDs of any kind (for art projects), pencils, colored pencils, markers, glue, scotch tape, packing peanuts, baby food jars with lids, large coffee cans with lids, thin ribbon, paint brushes and poster paint for use in an elementary school classroom. The group handles a wide variety of supplies and is open to any item readers may have even if it’s not mentioned here.

You can drop off the items from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday or Wednesday at 15 Andrew Drive in Auburn, the third building in the parking lot at East Auburn Community School. For questions about whether an item would be useful, call or email Pat, pelliccia9@yahoo.com, 333-6671.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The organizers of the third annual Newfoundland Day are seeking people from Newfoundland, those who have Newfoundland ancestors or anyone interested in being an honorary Newfie to join them at Mel’s Hilltop Restaurant, Poland Spring, on Saturday, June 1, starting at 4:30 p.m.

This fun-filled event will feature a screeching-in ceremony, giveaways, Irish and Newfoundland music by the Squid Jiggers, and much more. Become an honorary Newfie by taking the Newfoundland pledge and kissing the fish.

As one person said at last year’s event “This is the most hilarious thing I have seen in a long time.”
