OXFORD — Dennis L. Sanborn, 75, of Oxford passed away on Monday, May 6, at his residence with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Belfast, Oct. 25, 1937, son of Laurence “Spec” and Albertha (Durost) Sanborn.
Dennis graduated from Oxford High School in 1957, where he was co-captain of the 1956 Western ME small school basketball championship team.
He married Olive Hall in 1956. Worked for Robinson Manufacturing Co., then for CMP as 1st class lineman retiring in 1995 after 31 years of service.
He was a 50-year member of the Oxford Lodge and served as a belly member of the knife and fork 630 degree. He was a member and trustee of Kora Shrine, director of Oxford Fair Assoc., served as a selectman for the town of Oxford in the 1970s and currently served again in his 10th year, a noted model-A enthusiast and a philanthropist, a honorary member of Oxford Fish & Game, recipient of Oxford Hills Rotary’s Paul Harris Award, honorary member of Lions Club, known for his bean hole beans and good stuff baked in the ground, pass president and active member of the Carlton Notch gun club.
He leaves his wife, Olive of 56 years; three sons, Laurence D. Sanborn, William and wife, Becky, of Oxford and Jay and wife, Lisa, of New Gloucester; he answered to Pa or Grandpa to six grandchildren, Kellie, Jordyn, Dennis R., Nicklos, Valerie and Jaykob; and a sister, Nancy of Florida.
