WILTON — The Invasive Plant Species Management Forum scheduled for Monday, May 13, at the Wilton Town Office has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Letter carriers food drive May 11

FARMINGTON — The National Association of Letter Carriers and rural carriers at the Farmington Post Office will hold their 21st annual food drive on Saturday, May 11.

Stamp out hunger by placing nonperishable food items in a bag in or near your mailbox. Your letter carrier will deliver it to a local food bank.

Food can also be dropped off in the lobby of the Post Office now through Saturday.

Free community lunch May 11

LIVERMORE FALLS — A free community lunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the American Legion Hall, 17 Reynolds Ave.

All ages are welcome.

The meal is hosted by Emmanuel Assembly of God in Livermore Falls.

Dance helps scholarship

JAY — A benefit dance for the Linda Latham Scholarship Fund will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the VFW Hall, 64 Jewell St.

Thrift Shop open Saturdays

JAY — Bartlett Memorial United Methodist Church at North Jay, Parish Thrift Shop is now open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with low priced quality items including lightly used clothing, shoes, household items, baby clothes, sports items, crafts, sewing needs, dishes, books and some furniture.

The shop is handicap accessible from the front door and good parking is available.

Masons plan May 12 dinner

NEW SHARON — A public ham dinner will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, at the Masonic Lodge Hall, Route 2.

The meal includes mashed potatoes, raisin sauce, baby carrots, peas, hot rolls, pies, tea and coffee.

Cost is $8 for adults, $6 for children and free for ages under 5.

Proceeds benefit the building fund.

Driving Dynamics at Turner Adult Ed.

TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education will offer Driving Dynamics from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18.

Learn how to improve defensive driving awareness and abilities. Take part in discussions of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the challenges to drivers on Maine’s highways. Those who complete the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving records.

Masonic Supper for building fund

WILTON — There will be a public Masonic supper, to benefit the building fund, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Harland M. Harnden Masonic Hall, 70 Bryant Road, East Wilton.

Menu will be baked chicken, mashed potato, gravy, vegetables, cranberry jell, rolls, homemade pies and beverages. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for those under 12.

St. Luke’s plans annual plant sale

WILTON — St. Luke’s Episcopal Church annual spring plant sale will take place rain or shine from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 18, in the church parking lot and undercroft.

Perennials, annuals, herb and vegetable seedlings, along with house plants are all available at reasonable prices; there will be gently used gardening books and supplies as well.

Workshop on apple pruning

FARMINGTON — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Franklin County will offer an apple pruning workshop from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 20, at the Cooperative Extension office, 138 Pleasant St. The class will be held rain or shine.

A $5 fee is payable the day of the class. Pre-registration is required. To register, call 778-4650. Class size is limited to 20.

Dave Fuller, agriculture and non-timber forest products professional for UMaine Cooperative Extension, will teach why we prune, what kinds of cuts to make and learn by doing pruning in a hands-on demonstration. The class will start inside and then we’ll travel to a nearby yard with apple trees of varying age, where pruning and training will be demonstrated. Dress to be outside and bring your favorite pruning tool. Questions are encouraged.
