JAY — A fire destroyed a large shed Wednesday night at a residence on Route 133, Assistant Chief Mike Booker of the Fire Department said Thursday. There were no injuries.
The Robert Hall family had left their home at about 3:30 p.m., he said. The fire was reported at 6 p.m.
A state fire investigator was continuing interviews Thursday to determine the cause, Booker said.
A passer-by stopped and a neighbor used a garden hose to keep the house cool so the fire did not spread, he said. The house is about 20 feet from the shed.
The fire spread to some trees and started to spread to the grass.
About 20 Jay firefighters responded. When they arrived, the shed was engulfed in flames, and the fire spread into the woods, he said.
The shed was insured.
Besides the shed, a snowmobile, a lawn mower, two rototillers, a new chain saw and some hand tools were destroyed, Booker said.
