ALBANY TOWNSHIP — An Albany Township man was arrested Tuesday evening and accused of beating his roommate with a board during a fight over the electricity bill.

Wesley E. Hewey, 59, of 1 McAllister Road, is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and violation of condition of release.

According to a report by Deputy Matthew Noyes of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Noyes responded to a call of two intoxicated men fighting. Hewey’s roommate, William A. Roscoe, said Hewey hit him with a board, tried to stab him and was going to retrieve a firearm, the report said.

Roscoe said he knew there was an arrest warrant issued to him for failure to pay fines but he called 911 anyway because he was concerned Hewey would hurt him, Noyes wrote.

The deputy reported he observed and photographed a laceration on Roscoe’s head that was sustained in the attack.

Deputies also saw firearms at the residence, and another roommate said they were Hewey’s, Noyes wrote.

Hewey had run through the woods to a friend’s house, and another deputy called him, learned where he was and Noyes arrested him.

Hewey said he and Roscoe fought over the electricity bill. He also admitted to owning a gun but said he found it in an alley in Lewiston, Noyes wrote.

Hewey has convictions for trafficking in scheduled drugs, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, gross sexual assault, gross sexual misconduct and unlawful sexual contact. He is a lifetime registrant on the Maine Sex Offender Registry.

On Wednesday evening, Hewey was being held at the Oxford County Jail in Paris on $1,000 cash bail. His arraignment is set for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 4 in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris.
