NORWAY — Police say a Norway woman was driving without a license when the car hit a utility pole on Pleasant Street on Thursday.
Autum Hagar, 19, of Norway, was charged with operating without a license after she ran a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am into a utility pole. Neither she nor her teenage sister with her was hurt, according to police Chief Robert Federico.
The car appeared to be totaled.
Detective Ron Cole is investigating the crash, but Federico said he didn’t see anything indicating that speed was a factor. He said it may have been driver inexperience.
No wires were downed, Federico said.
One man who came upon the scene said the girls told him that a man was driving and had run from the scene, but Federico said Hagar and her sister denied someone else had been driving.
Federico said he doubted that there was a different driver involved. “If that was the case, why did the girl say she was driving when she didn’t have her driver’s license?” he asked. He said there was “no question” Hagar had been sitting in the driver’s seat when the car crashed.
Hagar was brought to the Oxford County Jail in Paris, where she was released on $500 unsecured bond.
