LEWISTON — The Twin Cities will honor businesses big and small and hear from Cianbro President Peter Vigue at the 32nd annual Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council annual dinner Thursday, May 16.

Vigue has been promoting the creation of an east-west highway in Maine.

The dinner and program is set from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ramada Inn, 490 Pleasant St., Lewiston. Registration is open until Tuesday, May 14.

“We give thanks back to these businesses who have been leaders in the community in a lot of different ways, from manufacturing to downtown investments to basically community gathering points,” LAEGC spokesman Calvin Rinck said. “These are people that have made considerable investments right here in our hometown.”

The city of Auburn will honor Eastern Fire Protection, Falcon Performance Footwear and The Bread Shack with Economic Achievement awards.

It’s also giving a new Community Development award to Rolly’s Diner.

“All four of them have achieved extraordinary success and profitability because they all are embracing what I would describe as the knowledge-based economy,” said Alan S. Manoian, Auburn’s new economic development specialist. “They’re all exceeding at what they do. None of them are on cruise control. They’re not following trends, they’re on the the vanguard of emerging trends.”

The city of Lewiston will highlight Forage Market, The Lofts at Bates Mill and Rainbow Bicycle. Lincoln Jeffers used “diversity” and “vitality” in describing the mix of that city’s winners.

“Lewiston is in the process of recreating and redefining the downtown area,” said Jeffers, economic and community development director. “Each of this year’s award winners is a pioneer in that effort.”

Each honoree will have a short video presentation. About 200 people are expected to attend the dinner.
