OLD TOWN — A 26-year-old Old Town man was injured early Monday in what police described as a freak accident.

Old Town police Captain Kyle Smart said the man, whose name he did not disclose, walked into the Mobil On the Run convenience store on Stillwater Avenue shortly after 6 a.m. Monday covered in blood.

A store clerk quickly noticed the man was bleeding and called the Old Town police station.

Orono police also responded to the scene, according to Smart. The captain said the man had some sort of accident at his residence in which a piece of broken glass struck him in the chest, causing him to bleed.

No charges are expected to be filed in relation to the incident, Smart said. The man was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment. His condition was not immediately available.
