1954 – 2013

SCARBOROUGH — Steven M. Harlow, 58, died Thursday May 9, 2013 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. He was a resident of High Street in Portland.

Born in Rumford on June 11, 1954, he was a son of Walter “Bud” and Christine “Chris”(Chicoine) Harlow. He was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1972, and the University of Maine at Gorham, Class of 1976. He received his master’s degree in clinical psychology and practiced in San Francisco, Calif., where he passionately worked at the New Leaf Services counseling center, providing guidance and help to those in need. He lived for several years in California before returning to Maine in 2010 to continue his work.

Steven lived an extraordinary life and had many interests. In addition to his counseling work, he trained as a musician and in the culinary arts. Steven was extremely caring and loving and always willing to provide advice and guidance to those who asked. He was a very special person and will be truly missed but always remembered by his loving friends and family.

Survivors include his sister, Barbara Jean Chapman and husband, Jeffrey, of Farmingdale; a brother, William “Bill” Harlow and wife, Ann, of Jay; nephews, Dean Harlow of Jay and Scott Chapman of Charlotte, N.C.; and nieces, Paula Nelson of Madison and Allison DeSalvo of Charlotte, N.C.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Gary.
