LEWISTON — The Friends of Pettingill citizens committee will hold a block party from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the former Pettingill Elementary School, 409 College St.
The organization formed last winter to spearhead an effort to preserve the school playground and turn the entire two-acre lot into a community park once the building is demolished later this summer.
The block party will be hosted by Friends of Pettingill chairman Dr. Ted Walworth, and MC Nick Knowlton. The event will feature organized children’s activities, music and snacks.
Speakers will include Lewiston Mayor Bob Macdonald, State Rep. Peggy Rotundo, State Sen. Margaret Craven and Lewiston School Committee chairman Jim Handy.
Bates College student volunteers and representatives from the Lewiston Police Department will be on hand to help coordinate activities. More volunteers are needed. For further information about the party, the park project or to volunteer, visit the Friends of Pettingill Facebook page.
In case of rain, the event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 16.
