FARMINGTON — A Madrid Township man was indicted Tuesday on sex offenses against two boys in Maine and Massachusetts.

John A. Fahnley, 58, of East Madrid Road was indicted on one felony account of gross sexual assault and two felony counts of sexual abuse of a minor.

A conviction on a gross sexual assault charge carries up to 30 years in jail.

Fahnley, already a convicted sex offender, was arrested in December 2012 and posted $25,000 cash bail

Fahnley is a 10-year registrant on the Maine Sexual Offender Registry. According to that website, Fahnley was convicted Nov. 18, 2003, for rape and abuse of a child under 16 in Massachusetts. He was sentenced the same day to 3½ years of probation, according to the site.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Detective Lt. David St. Laurent handled the case.

In the December arrest, former Lt. Niles Yeaton said both boys were under age 16 and disclosed sexual assaults by Fahnley to police in Massachusetts.

The incidents occurred in 2008 through 2010, reportedly in Maine and Massachusetts, he said.
