RUMFORD — Auditions for the Rumford Public Library Children’s Theater summer play will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, May 21 and 23, in the library’s public room.

This year’s play will be the Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve classic, “Beauty and the Beast.” It will be directed by Zack Hodge, who is new to the director position. He will be assisted by Susan DeRoehn, who is a veteran director of Summer Children’s Theater.

“Beauty and the Beast” is the tale of Prince Adam, cursed into beast form by an enchantress, and Belle, a young women whose father takes a wrong turn and puts her in the path of the beast. Can they find happiness and love in an enchanted castle ? Will the dish run away with the spoon?

Stage performers will be children ages 5-15. Older teens are also needed to help with choreography, stage and tech work, prompting and backstage help.

“Beauty and the Beast” will be presented to the public in matinee and evening performances on July 25. For more information contact Zack Hodge at 357-0899 or Mrs. Marshall, children’s librarian, at 364-3661.
