John T. McCarthy of Lewiston, proprietor of the Novelty Cloak Store, bought on Tuesday from Fred A. Perry of Lewiston the other half of the lot at 86-90 Lisbon street, which they owned jointly, and he will erect on the entire lot a moving picture theatre of beautiful design. The name of the theatre as at present planned is the “Gem.” It will accommodate 613 patrons. It is interesting to note than on this spot in a wooden building were the new theatre will sit were shown the first moving pictures ever seen in Lewiston by a man coming here with a machine which he set up in that building.

(Photo caption) When spring comes, farmers turn their eyes to the fields with thoughts of this year’s crops in mind. The Bell family of Auburn and Lewiston spent the past week getting ready for Friday’s planting. Victor Bell is shown plowing his 100-acre field off Route 136 in Durham. Emile Bell is shown loading the corn planter which seeds 60 acres of the Durham field. The Bells farm a total of 500 acres, including 100 in Lewiston and 125 in Auburn. This season, they are planting 200 acres in potatoes and 300 in corn.
