(OF LOCAL INTEREST) “If the aldermen of Lewiston vote to allow no lunch carts on Main street, they will be making a great mistake, I believe,” says a citizen. “These lunch carts do no harm, being located at one side of a wide street and no complaint is ever heard about them. Certainly they accommodate a large number of people.”

A plot of land, forty by sixty feet, is being plowed at the rear of Wallace School, Main streets, Lewiston, and gardening will be carried on under the direction of the pupils of the fifth grade of which Miss Grace Teague is teacher. Different clubs of five or ten children will be informed and each club will have a special portion of the garden under its care.

The huge Charles Cushman building on Court Street, Auburn, was emptied of personnel shortly before 1 p.m. after a bomb scare call. The was the third such in the area in eight days. Auburn police were notified immediately when a caller said the Shapiro Brothers premises in the building were going to be blown up in about 15 minutes. A crew of policemen and two fire units were sent. Evacuating the building was a major task for there are some six to ten firms located in the large brick structure, including the Charles Cushman shoe factory and many allied shoe product firms. Court Street was crowed with onlookers as firemen and policemen searched. No bomb was found.

Commuters on Hudson Bus Lines will have some interesting companions on Wednesday morning when mayors of the Twin Cities, as well as other local officials, will take part in a national effort to draw attention to public transportation and say thanks to bus drivers. Both Mayor Maurice L. Labbe of Lewiston and Mayor Harry W. Woodard of Auburn will climb aboard as part of “Hats Off To America’s Bus Drivers.” The public is invited to take part in the event, which includes tours of the Main Street bus station, presentations by officials and prizes for passengers.
