AUGUSTA — Melvin K. Durland, 65, of New Portland found peace on Tuesday, May 7, at the Togus VA Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 22, 1947, in Rumford, the son of John and Annie (Campbell) Durland.
Melvin was raised and educated in Mexico. Upon graduation in 1966, he went on to work for the Oxford Paper Co. as well as joining the National Guard. He later joined the Air Force in 1972, and proudly served for six years.
Melvin married Judith Witas in 1968, and went on to have two sons, Norman K. Durland and Glenn N. Durland. After serving in the military, they made their home in New Portland in 1979, where they enjoyed the outdoors and the small town life.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Judy Durland of New Portland; his two sons, Norman K. Durland of New Portland and Glenn N. Durland, his wife, Linda, and their two sons, Hunter and Nathan of New Portland; an older sister, Colleen Jaros of Florida; a sister Jane Doucette and her husband, Kim, of Mexico; a brother, John Durland and Janice, of Mexico; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his oldest brother, Norman Durland.
