LEWISTON — Germaine L. Marquis of Lewiston passed away on Wednesday, May 15, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

She was born June 8, 1933, the daughter of Adelard and Alice Bergeron Landry. She attended St. Peter’s School and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in South Berwick in 1952.

On April 7, 1956, she married Roger Marquis and together they raised their family in Lewiston. Germaine worked as a nurses aide and an EKG technician at St. Mary’s Hospital. She also worked as an accounting assistant at Auburn Motor Sales for a number of years. Germaine eventually went back to St. Mary’s, where she worked as a personnel assistant and also in pastoral care. At the time of her retirement, she was the Pastoral Care Director at Holy Family Parish, a position that she truly enjoyed.

Mrs. Marquis was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at Holy Family Church where she served as a eucharistic minister and lector. She was involved in Youth Ministry and the Search Program for many years as well as Engaged Encounter and Marriage Encounter. Germaine was Sodalist of the Year in 1997 for the Ladies of St. Anne at Holy Family.

Germaine is survived by her sons, Daniel of West Gardiner and the Rev. Paul R. Marquis of Portland; her daughter, Kathy Marquis Cyr of Freeport; granddaughter, Michelle and her husband, Dwayne Deschenes and their daughter, Kaitlyn of Auburn; her sisters, Fernande Hamann, Julie Bannister and Jeanne Lessard of Lewiston and Pauline Cashman and husband, John, of York; sisters-in-law, Irene Marrier of Gorham, Aline Landry and brother-in-law, Richard Robert, of Lewiston.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Roger in 2004; her stepmother, Felicia Parent Landry; brothers, the Rev. Armand, Phillip, Bertrand, Roger, Laurier, Hervey, Roland and Raymond; and sisters, Therese Jean, Georgette Lavoie and Claudette Robert.

The Marquis family would like to thank the staffs at Chapman House, d’Youville Pavilion and Montello Manor for the care she was given during this difficult time.
